Smells Fishy

It is SO amazing how many people think that fish is/are ? NOT meat. We went out last night for my birthday and I asked the waiter if there were any vegetarian choices on the menu? He said well, we have lots of fish....... (me, rolling my eyes) seriously???!?!? ALL meat is RED meat! oh, well, I had a nice conglomerate of sides and literally rolled out of the place. So, it's ALL good! we made the famous onion bread tonight. LUV that stuff! it's back in or on? a routine, so back to sandwiches! the stuff makes the house smell so warm and cozy! happy Autumn!!

I learned.....

At our Raw Food Class with mollie, i learned:
drinking green tea or carrot juice MAY help you not burn so much in the sun, but if you eat healthy and not "fatty" you may not burn so much either! hummmmm.........

we cant absorb the vitamins from the good foods we eat if we aren't CLEAN first!!!

Thank you Sandy for the PERFECT frosting recipe for those Cinnamon rolls!!! from Goneraw.com
Juice of 3 oranges
2 Tbsp. agave
2 handfuls of mac. nuts!
yum!!

pretty good! cin. rolls!

Got this recipe from "Gone Raw" was decent...think the icing needs to be sweeter tho...
1¼ cups almond meal
1¼ cups ground flaxseed
1 dash cayenne pepper
1½ tablespoons cinnamon
1 pinch sea salt
1 cup soft pitted dates
¼ cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
⅛ cup olive oil
⅛ cup agave nectar
¼ cup raisins, plus a little extra
¼ cup chopped nuts
Preparation
Combine the almond meal, ground flaxseed, dash of cayenne pepper, 1/2 Tbsp. cinnamon and pinch sea salt in a bowl and set aside.
In a food processor or blender, process dates, water and vanilla into a paste. Remove half of the date paste and add it to the dry ingredients, along with the olive oil and agave. Mix these ingredients with your hands until it forms a dough. You may need to add a little water and/or agave if it is too dry, but be careful not to add too much.
Spread the dough out on a piece of parchment paper, and flatten/shape it into a 1/4-inch thick square.
Add 1/4 cup raisins and 1 Tbsp. of cinnamon to the rest of the date paste left in your food processor or blender. Process until smooth. Then, spread a thin layer of the paste onto the dough square, making sure to cover the whole surface, and top with a sprinkle of extra raisins and the chopped walnuts.
Using the parchment paper to help hold everything together, carefully/tightly roll the square into a log. Chill in the refrigerator, and then slice into about 1-inch thick rounds. I usually make about 8 cinnamon rolls out of this recipe.
These cinnamon rolls can be eaten right out of the refrigerator or warmed on a dehydrator. I top mine with a generous icing of raw almond butter mixed with agave, vanilla and sea salt (or if I have more time, I make a cashew and coconut whipped cream icing

Makes 2 cups.
2 cups raw cashews, soaked
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons dates, soaked
1 tablespoon coconut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or half a vanilla bean)
¼ teaspoon salt
Place all ingredients in a high-powered blender and process until creamy

The Raw Goddess is QUEEN!!!

Yum!!! I tried her almond cho. bar today and OH MY!! it was LUSIOUS!! she is supposed to be having a dessert "cook"book coming out soon...wish it would hurry up! here's her recipe
1/2 cup melted coconut butter
1/2 cup cacao or carob powder (I used 3 part cacao/1 part carob)
(my note: first time i tried all carob and the family liked it better than using all cacao. note to self to do as the Raw Goddess did: 3 part cacao/1 part carob!)
1 tbs maple syrup
1 tbs
agave nectar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Blend until smooth in high speed blender or food processor.
( I used hand blender because vitamix seperated it)
Transfer to a bowl, then add by hand:
A few drops pure almond extract
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup almonds,
(if you store in frig or freezer like me, bring to room temp. first. If you dump them right in, it will cause the coconut better to "set up".) chopped Spread mixture on plate or pan lined with parchment paper and set in the fridge or freezer. You can score the chocolate with a cookie or pizza cutter after a few minutes or break into pieces once fully set.

2 cups walnuts, soaked 8 to 12 hours
* 1 cup cashews*

2 1/4 cups water
* 1 cup pure maple syrup
* 1/4 teaspoon maple extract
* pinch solar-dried sea salt
* 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, soaked for 8 to 12 hours, then dehydrated (optional)
1. Drain and rinse the walnuts.
2. Put the soaked walnuts, cashews, and all remaining ingredients, except the chopped walnuts, into a blender and blend until completely smooth and creamy. The mixture should resemble the consistency of a thick milkshake.
3. Pour the walnut cream into ice cube trays (I used muffin cups) and freeze until hard.
4. Put cubes through a Green Life or Champion Juicer outfitted with the homogenizing plate.(didn't do this step either as I don't have it)
5. Stir in the chopped walnuts and return to the freezer for a couple of hours. Serve immediately or store in the freezer until ready to use. Keeps in the freezer, in a sealed container, for 1 to 2 months.

Oldie but Goodie

Thought a glass of Cho. Milk sounded good this a.m. cuz it's so hot out!
2 cup raw almonds soaked overnight, rinsed, drained.
Blend in vitamix with 3 c. pure water
strain through milk bag. you have to really work it! ( i use 99cent painters bag from Hardware store)
you can make almond flour from the pulp. just throw in dehydrator overnight then run through food processor until powdery.
place liquid back in blender and blend in
2 TB mesquite
2 TB carob powder
2 froz. bananas
1/4 c. agave
2 Tbsp. coconut oil (opt.)
1/2 c. raw cacao nibs (opt.)

Infuriating Thoughts.....

Isn't is JUST amazing how MUCH money is BLOWN on all this campaign stuff..(i know,... i have been deeply, personally involved in several!....)and instead it could actually go for something that actually helps someone or educates somebody...think how many hungry children that campaign money could feed in starving nations or even in our OWN back yard. I know, I know those people that spend a ton at these fund raisers probably give to charity too! just random infuriating thots....

Saturday, May 24, 2008

hummmm.......????

Not!! saying I believe this...(well, the juries still out on that...)just food for thot.......

Just when you thought you were safe to go out in the sun...not! The Center for Disease Control (CDC) released a new study showing that nearly all Americans are contaminated with a widely-used sunscreen ingredient called oxybenzone. This chemical so far has been linked to allergies, hormone disruption, and cell damage, as well as low birth weight in baby girls whose mothers are exposed during pregnancy. Oxybenzone is also a penetration enhancer, a chemical that helps other chemicals penetrate the skin......more info at

That's why we have them in the spring....that and stuff like cilantro! for detox and cleansing purposes!! very informative. (just make sure they are washed really good AND haven't been chemically treated in any way!)

Cant wait to eat this stuff! Cranberry maple granola from "Raw Food Real World"

B-B-B-Brrrrrrrr.........

we did it again!!! was lil chilly tho!!
I would post a pix of our breakfast but it wasn't too pretty. we had crepes! just blend a banana. dehydrate it for approx. 3-4 hours and you have banana fruit leather.

"Cool Whip"From the Raw Goddess: (she has GOOD recipes!!)
1 1/2 cups cashews
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup coconut butter
1/3 cup agave
2 tbs pure vanilla extract
1 tbs lecithin ~ I didn't have this...so left it out..
1/4 tsp sea salt
Blend all ingredients until completely smooth and creamy. Chill for a few hours to firm ~ i only put it in the freezer for a couple of minutes.

Put "cool whip" in "crepes" and top with blueberries! SO good!!
